NOISE MONITORING

Noise monitoring has become a vital aspect of modern construction practices, especially as urban development intensifies and environmental regulations become stricter. This practice is essential for assessing the noise levels produced during various activities such as demolition, piling, construction, and heavy vehicle movement on job sites. With the increasing concern regarding noise pollution and its impact on the surrounding community and environment, effective noise monitoring plays a critical role in project compliance and community relations.

The Importance of Noise Monitoring in Construction

Local authorities often require comprehensive noise monitoring plans before initiating any project on-site. This pre-emptive measure ensures that baseline noise levels are established, allowing for a clear understanding of how construction activities may alter the auditory landscape of the area. Following this initial assessment, long-term noise monitoring may be mandated for the entire duration of the construction project. Such thorough oversight not only fulfills legal obligations but also helps in mitigating any potential disturbances to nearby residents and businesses.

Our company has a well-supported hire fleet of state-of-the-art noise monitoring systems. These systems are meticulously maintained to ensure accuracy and reliability, enabling us to provide the highest quality service to our clients.

Investing in reliable noise monitoring services not only safeguards against potential disputes and regulatory issues but also fosters a positive relationship with the surrounding community. By prioritizing effective noise management, construction projects can proceed smoothly and with minimal disruption, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and responsible development practices.

The noise meters can operate on 110V/240V electrical power supply or use battery packs for remote applications if required.  We use Tracer Lithium-Ion 12V rechargeable battery packs to run our Sonitus EM2030 monitoring systems for 18+ days of battery life, these battery packs are an excellent option for remote sites. These batteries come in a robust IP67 weather-resistant Peli case with a battery meter that shows the remaining charge.

Hassle-Free Remote Environmental Monitoring

Environmental monitoring with the help of dust, noise, and vibration sensors is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of workers and the community living near construction sites. By proactively monitoring and addressing environmental concerns, construction companies can minimize any negative impacts and maintain a healthy and sustainable working environment.

Overall, monitoring noise helps ensure that construction projects are carried out sustainably and responsibly, minimizing harm to the environment and enhancing the overall quality of life for the community. It also helps companies maintain a positive reputation and avoid potential legal issues related to environmental compliance.

Current Legislation for Environmental Noise Monitoring

National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)

BS 5228 ‘Noise & Vibration Control on Construction & Open Sites’ – (Control noise on construction and open sites with significant noise levels arising from work activities/operations).  This gives recommendations for basic methods of noise control relating to construction sites, including sites where demolition, remediation, ground treatment, or related civil engineering works are being carried out and open sites, where work activities/operations generate significant noise levels, including industry-specific guidance.

BS 4142:1997 ‘Method for Rating Industrial Noise Affecting Mixed Residential and Industrial Areas’ - (Determining noise levels at the outside of a building: Factories, or industrial premises and or fixed installations, or sources of an industrial nature in commercial premises; and background noise level)

Noise Policy Statement for England (NPSE) – Noise Policy Vision: Promote good health and good quality of life through the effective management of noise within the context of Government policy on sustainable development.

Section 61 The Control of Pollution Act 1974 - Control of Construction Noise & Vibration.
