News: Bunker Hill Solar Farm Project – Vibration Monitoring and Protection

Project Overview: This project involved the construction of a significant ground-mounted solar farm at Bunkers Hill Farm in Hook, Hampshire. The objective was to establish a renewable energy source by installing 66.67 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. This large-scale undertaking required careful planning and execution to minimize any potential impact on the surrounding environment and existing structures.

Vibration Monitoring Services Role: Vibration Monitoring Services was contracted by Belectric UK, the principal contractor for the solar farm construction, to provide comprehensive vibration monitoring solutions. A critical aspect of the project involved the movement of heavy machinery and equipment along the access lane to the solar farm site. This raised concerns about potential vibration-induced damage to a historically significant Listed Barn located adjacent to the access route, as well as a neighbouring residential property.

Protecting Heritage and Community: VMS implemented a robust vibration monitoring program, utilizing state-of-the-art sensors and data acquisition systems. These systems were strategically placed to continuously measure vibration levels at the Listed Barn and the neighboring property during periods of heavy machinery activity. The real-time monitoring data allowed for immediate assessment of vibration levels against pre-defined threshold limits, ensuring the safety and structural integrity of the sensitive structures.

Collaboration and Mitigation: Throughout the project, VMS worked closely with Belectric UK to provide regular updates on the vibration monitoring results. This collaborative approach allowed for proactive mitigation strategies to be implemented whenever vibration levels approached or exceeded acceptable limits. These strategies included adjusting machinery routes, reducing operating speeds, and employing vibration dampening techniques, thus ensuring minimal disruption and preventing any damage to the historically important barn and neighboring residence. The successful completion of the Bunker Hill Solar Farm project demonstrates VMS's commitment to environmental protection and responsible construction practices.

Redevelopment of Shinfield Park, Reading: Ensuring Environmental Protection Through Monitoring

The redevelopment of Shinfield Park in Reading marks an exciting chapter in transforming the site from its former Shire Hall offices into a modern commercial park. During demolition, comprehensive dust and vibration monitoring was essential to protect the environment and nearby communities. With construction progressing smoothly, the new development will feature flexible commercial spaces, attractive landscaping, and sustainable design, set to be completed by Spring 2027. This project exemplifies a commitment to environmental responsibility and high-quality development.

Vibration in Reinforced Concrete Floor Systems: Design Guidance to Eurocodes

Vibration in reinforced concrete floor systems is often not a governing design issue due to the inherent mass and stiffness of concrete. However, in UK projects particularly offices, gyms, healthcare facilities, and long-span structures floor vibration can significantly influence both serviceability and user comfort.

Noise Monitoring Project Complete – Cleve Hill Solar Park in Graveney

VMS Ltd was engaged to deliver comprehensive noise monitoring solutions. A significant aspect of the project involved the movement and operation of heavy machinery, including cranes, excavators, and transport vehicles. These activities raised concerns about potential noise pollution and its impact on the surrounding wildlife, particularly in this ecologically sensitive coastal area.
