Background

A large open plan office building constructed of steel and glass over 7 floors was suffering from prolonged spells of vibration which was causing concern to the staff who worked on the upper floors.

Solution

Vibration Monitoring Services installed permanent seismic monitoring equipment over a period of weeks, altering the location at intervals to determine the highest frequencies of vibration.  This gave an overal picture of the vibration levels across the building.

Results

Analysis of the data collected determined that the vibration levels were not due to faults within the building however a great deal of demolition and piling was being carried out in close proximity and combined with open plan style offices this caused vibration to be felt throughout the building.
